GAS SAFE REGISTER
What is the Gas Safe Register?
Adrip Plumbing Ltd is a Gas Safe Registered Company (Registration Number 551653). The Gas Safe Register is the official list of gas engineers who are qualified to work safely and legally on gas appliances. By law gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register. Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI on 1 April 2009.
What is the law?
Gas Safe Register deals with all aspects of the downstream gas industry covered by the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. It covers both piped natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It is law that anyone carrying out gas work that is within the scope of the Regulations is on the Gas Safe Register. The Register is there to protect people from unsafe gas work.
Gas Safe Registered Engineers carry a Gas Safe Register ID card. Before any gas work is carried out always check the card and make sure the engineer is qualified for the work you need doing. Badly fitted and poorly serviced appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a highly poisonous gas. You can’t see it, taste it or smell it, but it can kill quickly with no warning.
Follow these simple checks to stay gas safe:
- Check your gas appliances every year. Gas appliances should be safety checked once a year and serviced regularly by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Tenants – make sure your landlord arranges this.
- Check your engineer is Gas Safe registered. You can find and check an engineer at www.GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.
- Check your engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card. Make sure they are qualified for the work you need doing. You can find this information on the back of the card.
- Check for warning signs your appliances aren’t working correctly, such as lazy yellow or orange flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks on or around the appliance and too much condensation in the room.
- Check you know the six signs of carbon monoxide poisoning – headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness.
- Check you have an audible carbon monoxide alarm. This will alert you if there is carbon monoxide in your home.
If you suspect anyone to be working illegally report them to Gas Safe Register. If you have had gas work done in your property in the last six months, you can nominate it for a free gas safety inspection. For more information and to find and check an engineer go to www.gassaferegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500. Take care, be Gas Safe.
